PATIALA, Feb 18: A Pakistani delegation comprising people from different walks of life was received at the Punjabi University campus by the faculty, this afternoon. Jasvinder Singh, head, Punjabi Department, while introducing the delegates to the faculty members said that such interaction between members of the two countries would help breaking barriers between the two countries.

Such visits to both the countries would also help in the multifaceted development of both the countries. Leader of the Pakistani delegation, Dr. Khalid Javaid Jan, who is a doctor by profession in an emotional speech said that they were overjoyed to see such a fine response from their counterparts. Dr. Jan said that boundaries of nations could not divide hearts. Many traditional rivals have pulled down the walls between their countries. There should also be free access to the citizens of both the countries to visit each other’s countries, added Dr. Jan.

short article insert N. Naqvi of the Urdu Department of the university said that Punjabi University was making all out efforts for the growth of Urdu and Persian languages. He said that since the inception of the university, 20 students have completed their Ph.D in Persian and Urdu, while Nawab Sher Khan Institute of Advanced Studies has been established in Malerkotla, where MA classes in Urdu and Persian are going on.

Secretary of Servants of the People Society, Satya Pal, informed the gathering that the Lahore University too has started MA in Punjabi in a bid to promote Punjabi in Pakistan.

The delegation was quite impressed by the university museum and were all praise for the university’s Guru Gobind Singh Bhawan, where comparative study of all the five religions is done.

The delegates included Lawrence Bhatti, Arshad Ali, Shahid Nadeem, Ali Baba, G. Abdul, Rashid Misbal, Javed Iqbal, Muhammad Naeem, Waquas Saeed, Aijaz Ullah Naz, Zahida Manzoor, B. Aishad Ali, M. M. Jawad Zakariya, C. Riaz ul Haq, A. Sikandar Raja, Imman Younas and Muhammad Tahir. In the evening, a mushaira in three languages Hindi, Punjabi and English is being organised, where eminent poets Janab Jigar Jalandhari, D. Nashir Naqvi, Mahesh Patialai, Kuldeep Cheema, Anup Virk, Mehak Bharti, Amrit Pal Singh and Dr Ravi would participate.
