The Pakistan Election Commission (EC) has ordered incineration of all records of the April presidential referendum, though an appeal against its validity is still pending in a court. All records concerning the referendum must be destroyed within a week, the EC said.
Jassarat, the Jamaat-e-Islami mouthpiece, however, had reported last month that the records had already been incinerated in Dera Hazikhan in Punjab province. It also reported that all records of the local body elections held last year would be destroyed by December 15.
According to Jassarat, it was President Pervez Musharraf who told the EC to destroy all the records.
