Pak team lacking in unity, says Afridi

Shahid Afridi says there is a lack of team spirit and motivation in the Pakistan team.

.

Shahid Afridi has voiced his dissent over the contracts and also claimed there was a lack of team spirit and motivation in the team.

Afridi said he had no issues being demoted to the category ‘C’ in the central contract as the loss of a few thousand rupees did not really matter to him as playing for Pakistan was a bigger reward for him.

“But I do not see any unity and combination among the players. There is clearly a lack of good intentions among some players in the team,” Afridi claimed in an interview to a daily.

He said if some player was not able to perform, others should be back and encourage him.

“They should guide him and support him through his bad patch. But now unfortunately what happens is if a player fails there is a whispering campaign launched against him in the dressing room and all the players sit in groups and not as one team.” “Some of the players are strictly concentrating on individual performances which is a bad sign and against team unity,” Afridi stated.

Afridi who has appeared in 26 Tests and 253 ODIs said unless players did not combine and perform as a team it was difficult to win matches.

He insisted there was a lack of good intention and this was affecting the performance of the team on the field.

He said the reason for lack of unity in the team was because of the attitude of some players.

Kaneria had also hit out at the cricket authorities for relegating him to category C of the contracts alongside someone like Fawad Alam who has played just four ODIs.
