LAHORE, NOVEMBER 18: Pakistan avoided the follow-on but were still 147 runs behind England when they ended the fourth day of the first Test on 333-8 here on Sunday.

Yousuf Youhana was 77 batting and Saqlain Mushtaq was unbeaten on 14. England made 480-8 before declaring their first innings.

Pakistan began the day on 119-2 and Salim Ealhi and Inzamam-ul-Haq added a further 80, taking their third-wicket partnership to 98, before England pace bowler Craig White made the breakthrough.

Elahi edged the ball on to his stumps as he played forward and was out for 44.

Inzamam reached his 28th half-century in his 68th Test with the help of eight fours before he was bowled by Ashley Giles for 63.

In the last over before lunch White had 19-year-old debutant Qaiser Abbas caught by Graeme Hick at gully for two.

Resuming after lunch at 210-5, Pakistan soon lost the wicket of captain Moin Khan, who was leg before to pace bowler Andrew Caddick for 17.

The 250 came in 89 overs but at 272 White claimed his third wicket of the day when he trapped all-rounder Abdur Razzaq lbw for 10.

England brought in close fielders and picked up another wicket before Tea when Wasim Akram played back and pushed at a Giles delivery and White scooped up the ball at short midwicket.
