JAMMU, Aug 15: The arrest of Paramjit Singh `Pammi', prime accused in the Beant Singh assassination case, has exposed what police call a plot to target top politicians and VIPs both in Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir on the 50th anniversary of Independence Day.According to the police, Pammi, of the Bhindranwale Tiger Force, who masterminded the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, had planned to strike again.Jammu & Kashmir police say the plot was foiled after seven militants, including Pammi, were arrested from different parts of the city during the last few days.Though top police officials remained tight-lipped, sources confirmed Pammi's arrest. Pointing out that Pammi was staying at an ashram in Digiana for many days, they said he had been moving around in the city and surrounding areas under the guise of a Mahant.During interrogation, he is said to have confessed to have masterminded Beant Singh's assassination by assembling and planting a human bomb in the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat.Opinion is, however, divided over the arrest of Pammi. While some say he was arrested on the basis of information provided by Special Task Force (STF) personnel, others say his arrest was a result of revelations made by an arrested militant, Attar Singh.
