Brought in to campaign for the Pampore Assembly by-election, National Conference star campaigners, former J-K chief minister Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah were booed by angry people at two places. Villagers showered invectives at them and chased them with kangris (firepots) at Drengbal. Police had to resort to lathicharge and stop the crowd from getting too close to the duo. So while Farooq made a quick speech amid anti-NC sloganeering, Omar’s remarks were lost in the din. At Awantipora, when Farooq stood up to speak, villagers him to leave at once. ‘‘What have you and your party done for the people during your six-year tenure,’’ fumed a villager, signalling him to come down from the make-shift rostrum. Angry villagers even hurled stones at the rostrum and threatened to pull the NC leaders down the stage. Some NC supporters reacted and shouted anti-PDP slogans. Police had to intervene when the two groups were close to clashing and help the Abdullahs out. A group of PDP supporters ran after Abdullah’s cavalcade and threw stones at them.
