SURAT, Dec 22: Bhupendra Solanki, the lone Congress Councillor in the SMC, has demanded the resignations of Home Minister Haren Pandya and Mayor Savita Sharda.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Solanki said that it was a shame for the BJP government that the police had failed to arrest the culprits even four days after Councillor Nita Satbhaya was murdered. When elected representatives of the ruling party were not safe in the city, how could the common man feel secure under their rule, he said.
The culprits were still at large, which was a failure on the part of the home department, for which the home minister should resign, he added.
The Mayor, the first citizen of the city, should also resign because she had to go to collectorate to submit a memorandum and to plead the officials for speedy investigation, he demanded.
Solanki claimed that while BJP leaders in the State were busy inaugurating functions and seeking publicity, the crime graph was increasing by the day.
Even BJP MLA Dheeru Gajera and Gulabdas Khasi claimed to have complained to the chief minister about the deteriorating law and order situation in city. They too felt helpless, which is a shame for the government, he said, adding that if these MLAs had any self-respect left, they should resign from the party.
