MUMBAI, NOV 15: The State Government has plans to cut down on the security cover for VVIPs. A review committee headed by the Commissioner of Police has been set up in this connection and it will submit its report by this weekend.The committee will examine intelligence reports of the last three years and make recommendations. A final decision on security arrangements will be taken as per the recommendations, said Minister of State for Home (City), Kripashankar Singh adding that all deserving persons irrespective of political affiliation will be given protection. ``There will be no political interference,'' he added.According to a home ministry official, the State had decided to reduce security to VVIPs by 10 per cent and also cut down on deployment of police due to shortage of personnel in various police stations.Singh also revealed that the government will soon take a decision on inducting nearly 9000 men into the police force and upgrading its capabilities of fighting against organised crime by providing it with sophisticated arms. ``The police have been overworked and in the recent past there have been a few deaths due to stress,'' he added.The matter came to the light after the death of two police officers due to heart attack on November 6. While Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramchandra Bansode (56) died at Dadar police station, his colleague Samuel Sathe (52) breathed his last at his Marol residence moments before leaving for Vile Parle police station.Nearly 15 policemen including traffic police have succumbed to heart attacks with their boots on this year so far. Of these, eight men died in the last two months while on duty. The tally of deaths due to this silent killer in the last two years is put at 44, according to police sources.
