Andhra Pradesh CM N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday announced that a high-level official panel would be constituted to draw up a blueprint for effective utilisation of gas reserves recently discovered in the Krishna-Godavari basin by Reliance. Details of the panel would be finalised soon.

Addressing the Telugu Desam Party’s state executive committee meeting, he said the State was expected to get about 50 per cent of the gas find due to its geographical location. ‘‘The committee will identify industries for each district so that the gas can be effectively utilised. We are also planning to lay pipelines to all the districts including the backward areas so that they can get industries and employment,’’ he said.

Displaying eagerness to derive maximum benefit out of the new-found gas reserves, Naidu said: ‘‘Unless we prepare ourselves to use the gas, it will go to other states which already have developed infrastructure.’’

Sources said that the state government would soon be opening a dialogue with Reliance Group for securing substantial amount of gas for the State.
