Parliament is literally splitting at its seams with 24 standing committees working overtime to submit their reports by August 19, a week after the House reconvenes.
While the committees wrap up, the House will stick to discussing ‘‘matters of national importance’’. The Parliamentary secretariat has booked rooms at Rail Bhavan to accommodate the committees. Rooms in Parliament House, the annexe and library are chock-a-block with committees working from 11 am to 11 pm.
Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has given the committees, which began functioning on August 9 due to the NDA boycott, time till August 19 to submit their reports.
