Passions ran high and debates ran long on Monday evening as 30 vocal Parsis gathered to discuss the recent edict issued by the community’s high priesthood banning marriages outside the community.
Meeting under the auspices of the Association of Inter-Married Zoarastrians (AIMZ), the participants drafted a resolution to dispel misconceptions that the edict on mixed marriages seems to have created.
‘‘The edict is misleading people. Our responsibility is to inform the public about the dangerous nature of the edict and clarify many of the misconceptions that have stemmed from them,’’ said Meher Amersey, a Parsi who has married a Gujarati.
