Party angry as Tiwari lets NCP steal credit for Gorkha status

The recent announcement by Uttaranchal CM Narain Datt Tiwari to grant OBC status to the state’s Gorkhas, did cheer the community but not the Congress ministers and legislators. The reason for their displeasure was that the announcement by the CM was made to a delegation of Gorkha leaders led by state Nationalist Congress Party chief Suryakant Dhasmana. Interestingly, Congress had promised to give OBC status to Gorkhas in its poll manifesto. Some Congress ministers and legislators, who wanted to take the credit for the step by their own government, felt cheated and annoyed.

At a Pradesh Congress Committee meeting some Congress ministers criticised the Chief Minsiter for giving credit to an Opposition for a historic decision.
