DMK president M. Karunanidhi today said that not all the BJP views on certain issues (like secularism, Hindutva ideology) were in the NDA’s national agenda. Parties (BJP) which have such views were in the National Democratic Alliance like any other party — DMK, PMK, MDMK — pursuing their respective policies and ideologies, he said. Pseudo-secularists to blame for social tension: Venkaiah New Delhi: BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu has called a meeting of state unit BJP presidents and general-secretaries of nine states, that are going to polls next year, in Delhi in mid-January. Naidu has called the meeting to collect feedback on the performance of the nine states and to discuss accordingly the party’s poll strategy. Naidu told The Indian Express on Thursday that the BJP was confident of winning the elections in most of the states due to the anti-incumbency factor in the Congress-ruled states. He blamed pseudo-secularists for creating social tensions in the country. He said if Hindu gods are denigrated and Hindu books distorted, the pseudo-secularists see no problem but if something similar happens with other religions, they won’t tolerate it. ‘‘It is this double standard which has created a backlash,’’ he said. ‘‘Hindu-bashing nahi chalegi (Hindu-bashing won’t work),’’ he said. — Anita Saluja All the NDA constituents have a right to propagate their policies and principles but these policies should not be thrust on the NDA, he told mediapersons at Anna Arivalayam. He was reacting to a reported statement of BJP All-India secretary L. Ganesan that the DMK was moving away from the policies of the BJP alliance. ‘‘First correct your question. This is not a BJP alliance. This is called the NDA and the DMK is one of its constituent.’’Reacting to BJP president M. Venkiah Naidu’s reported statement that the party would replicate the Gujarat experience in polls in other states, he said there would not be any problem to the DMK as long as the respective constituents took policy decisions at their party level. ‘‘We may have problems only if such decisions are taken by the NDA.’’He said the recent talks between Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa at Hyderabad on Krishna water scheme deserved to be mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records as they had discussed such a major project without the presence of the officials of the two states. He refused to comment on the reports that Jayalalithaa had taken the initiative to join the NDA with the help of Chandrababu Naidu. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu’s main Opposition DMK on Friday organised rallies throughout the state protesting against the ‘‘anti-people’’ policies of the AIADMK government.Partymen carrying banners shouted slogans against CM Jayalalithaa and her govt for bringing the anti-conversion law, the bus privatisation proposal, hike in the subsidised rice prices and stopping of free power to farmers.
