
PMK allotted mango symbol
CHENNAI: The Election Commission of India has allotted the mango symbol to the Pattali Makkal Katchi in deference to the party’s plea. The PMK which had contested on the elephant symbol in the previous elections lost the symbol following the Election Commission derecognising the party. The party had sought the mango symbol for its candidates in the coming Lok Sabha election.

ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of Janata Dal would contest the coming Lok Sabha polls on its own if it failed to reach seat-sharing understandings with the ruling Arunachal Congress, state JD president T C Teli said.

PANAJI: The electorate in Goa has risen by over 56,000, registering an increase of about 6.85 per cent between November 1994, state Assembly elections and the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Nayak joins BJP
GULBARGA: Former minister and Congress leader Madan Gopal Nayak formally joined the BJP in the presence of its senior leader Atal Behari Vajpayee here on Thursday. Nayak was a minister of state for regulated markets in the Veerappa Moily Government. He left the Congress about a month back.
