SONEPAT, Jan 4: Train services on the Delhi-Ambala section of the Northern Railway continue to remain disrupted even today, a month after the detection of atleast 1,400 cracks on the UP railway track developed by the passing of a goods train on it on December 3.
Though the Northern railway has not been able to restore some long-distance trains, including the Amritsar-bound Flying Mail and the Ambala-bound Unchahar Express, it has announced the cancellation of four more express trains on this section for one month. These include the Dadar-Amritsar Express and the Baraund Express.
According to the railway sources, this has been necessitated owing to the continuous foggy weather conditions. Most of the long-distance Express, Mail, superfast and Shatabadi trains have been behind schedule for hours together thereby causing inconvenience to the passengers in general and commuters in particular.
These sourses also revealed that keeping in view the safety of the passengers, the speed of the Mail Express, Superfast and Shatabadi trains running with the schedule speed of 90-105 kmph has been reduced to 30 kmph. On cancellation of several trains, the extra rakes thus made available are being stacked with other trains.
Meanwhile, the Daily Railway Passengers Welfare Association has expressed grave concern over the inefficient and unsatisfactory working of the railway as well as the late running of not only long-distance but suburban trains on this section and urged the Union Railway Minister Mitish Kumar to take a serious note of the inconvenience being caused to the passengers, particularly the commuters on this account.
In a press release today, it demanded immediate initiation of steps for improvement in the train services on this section so that the commuters, government servants and school teachers could reach their destinations on time.
