NEW DELHI, July 30: Railway Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, who made a surprise visit to the New Delhi railway station, today terminated the services of a senior station manager of New Delhi railway station and suspended three other rail staff for negligence and unsatisfactory condition of the busy station after carrying out a surprise check.

Paswan, who visited the station along with senior railway officials, ordered immediate termination of services of Mishri Lal, senior station manager, who was re-employed on superannuation.

He said this was done keeping in view the overall unsatisfactory condition of the station and working of the rail staff there.S K Sahani, a booking clerk, who was found absent from his seat though a long queue of passengers were waiting outside the counter, was suspended.

Similar action was taken against the chief health inspector, P R Tiwari as platforms and the surroundings of base kitchen were found to be shabby and dirty.Paswan also suspended senior commercial manager, A K Jain for not displaying up-to-date information about the recent rail accident.However, Paswan today ruled out his resignation owning moral responsibility of the collision at Faridabad, which killed 12 persons.

“There are any number of road accidents everyday all over the country. But are transport ministers in States where they occur resigning?” he asked at a press conference here.Paswan, who announced details of a cleanliness drive being launched in all trains and railway stations across the country from August 1, said that the inquiry by the Commissioner of Railway Safety would go into all aspects of the accident. He said that it was not true that the driver of Karnataka Express, who was a goods train driver, was not competent to do duty on a passenger train.
