PATIALA, Jan 15: Patiala, today, became the first district in the state to get a website. The district came on the Internet four days ago.

The website will prove to be a boon to the common man as information on a vast variety of subjects, besides official information, would be available on the screen. The website would provide a dossier on the district giving vital information on education, industry, rural development, agriculture and sports facilities. Information up to the village level like the number of people eligible for old age pension, list of beneficiaries of the Shagun Scheme launched by the state government, and those eligible for the scheme would be readily available to the concerned officers. In an exclusive interview to Newsline here today, Patiala Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh Bir said that with the administration getting a website and Internet facilities, there would be better interaction with the people. People can send in their complaints to the administration on E-mail.

Bir said that it was proposed to have computers for all the sub-divisional magistrates in the district so that there could be active interaction between him and the SDMs.

Elaborating on the website, Bir said that private agencies had borne the cost of getting the facility. The monthly recurring expenditure would be met through advertisements and commercials that would be put on the screen.
