ROOPNAGAR, MARCH 19: The agitated members of Revenue Patwar Union today intensified their strike, bringing all revenue related works to a standstill across the district.

The patwaris, who have been on a strike for four days now, are demanding that the "false case" registered against their colleagues by the Kharar police in December last year should be revoked.

Union president Gurnam Singh said that three patwaris and a tehsildar have been "falsely implicated" in a case of forgery. In a statement issued to the press, the union urged that the cases against Randhir Singh, Dilbagh Singh and Balwinder Singh, who were booked along with Ravneet Singh on the complaint of Hari Singh Mann, should be withdrawn.

Mann had accused that the three patwaris and a tehsildar of forgery in the revenue records of his land to favour Ravneet. Ravneet also participated in the dharna being staged by the patwaris outside the office of the deputy commissioner. Ravneet too had pleaded that the patwaris have been "implicated" in the case.

The union leaders warned that the strike would continue till the case was withdrawn. On being contacted, the District Revenue officer Sohan Lal said that the matter is being examined afresh at the deputy commissioner’s level and is likely to be sorted out soon.
