NEW DELHI, May 24: Supporters of Maharashtra satrap Sharad Pawar, who are quietly watching the power struggle in the Congress, today received a shot in the arm from Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh’s stand that a contest should be preferred to a consensus.

“Elections should be held though this has not been done for the past few years,” Digvijay Singh told journalists in New Delhi today. “It is always good if the democratic practice is followed.”

Singh’s remarks assume significance against the backdrop of Congress Working Committee member Rajesh Pilot’s decision to contest for the party presidentship.
