CHANDIGARH, MARCH 24: The Punjab Basketball Association will honour its men’s team which won the 49th Senior Basketball Championship which concluded at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium on March 22. Hailing the victory, PBA president RS Gill, the victorious team would be given a cash award of Rs one lakh at a function. The date of function would be finalised soon. “It was a well-merited victory over tough Bihar in the final. The Punjab cagers deserve full praise,” said Gill.
President of the Punjab Volleyball Association Additional Director General of Police M S Bhullar, Punjab Hockey Association secretary H S Dhillon, former India hockey captain Pargat Singh, president of the Punjab Handball Association SS Channy, PBA secretary Teja Singh also congratulated the Punjab cagers for regaining the Todd Trophy, the symbol of national supremacy.
Sarvar champion
Sarvar of Chandigarh won the All-India freestyle wrestling title at the Nalwari Fair, Bilaspur. The winner got a cash prize of Rs 20,000. Ombir of SAS Nagar was runner-up. Rakesh (Indore) and Rehmat Ali (Chamba) were third and fourth respectively.
Rajinder Kumar of Himachal Police was declared Him Kumar’. He received a silver mace and Rs 5,500. Chanderbir of Mandi was runner-up and was rich by Rs 3500. HP chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal distributed the prizes.
Joint winners
Pardeep Kalia (Bilaspur) and Prem Singh (Mandi) were declared joint winners in the All-India Paraglyding competitions. According to a press release, Neeraj Gupta (Kullu) and Dheeraj Dabra (Bilsapur) were second and third respectively.
