PBI university teachers, students donate blood

PATIALA, JUNE 29: Gurpartap Singh Sahi, Principal Secretary Higher Education and Languages, inaugurated a blood donation camp at the Arts Auditorium of Punjabi University here today. The blood donation camp was organised for Kargil soldiers, under the leadership of Dean Students Welfare and with active cooperation from the NSS and Youth Welfare Department of the University. More than 158 teachers, students and employees got themselves registered for blood donation. However, only persons with rare blood groups were asked to donate blood, while the rest have been enrolled in the reserve list.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia appreciated the zeal of the donors who had come forward to donate blood at the camp despite holidays in the University campus and the students being busy with their entrance tests. Dalbir Singh Dhillon, Dean Students Welfare, said employees of the Sports Department and some other departments have also decided to donate their one day’s salary towards the relief fund for these soldiers and their families.

Others who were present on the occasion, included Dean Academic Affairs B.S. Bhatia, Ranbir Singh Sarao, Registrar, Sham Lal Singla, Dean Colleges, Daljit Singh, Director Youth Welfare, Puta president S.S. Khera, Charanjit Kaur, president Non-Teaching Employees’ Union and Satpal Garg, president A-Class Officers Association of the Punjabi University.
