PUNE, Nov 15: The passion for new cars being followed by most of the elected office-bearers of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is well known. Now the standing committee chairperson, the ruling party leader, and the opposition leader want the luxurious Maruti Esteem, and their attachment to the two-year-old Premier 118 NE seems to be waning.
The proposal for purchase of the three cars is on the agenda of the civic standing committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow. At the cost of Rs 5.72 lakh per car, the PCMC would be spending Rs 16.56 lakh for the three vehicles which are to be purchased directly from a prominent car dealer company. The commissioner, mayor, deputy mayor, the opposition leader were provided with new Premier 118 NE cars two years ago. The additional commissioner, city engineer, as well as the chairpersons of the divisional offices, have been provided with Ambassador cars.
With the cars being taken only for the three office-bearers, a similar demand is likely to be made by other office-bearers. Surprisingly the Mayor is not among the office-bearers for whom the new cars are being taken.
