PUNE, June 29:The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has finally decided to construct the abattoir at Kasarwadi near the existing effluent treatment plant.
The project, which had turned controversial over the last five years because no suitable site could be found for it, was also cleared at the civic general body meeting.
The proposal will now be forwarded to the State Government for its approval. The State Government and the Central Government together share up to 50 per cent of the cost of the project. The construction of the modern abattoir is expected to incur an expenditure of Rs five crore.
The site for the abattoir was unanimously decided at a meeting convened by the mayor and attended by MLAs Ramkrishna More, Ajit Pawar, Gajanan Babar, and Kumar Gosavi. Other office bearers, Municipal Commissioner Pravinsinh Pardeshi and senior PCMC officials were present. Mayor Hanumanth Bhosale presided on the occasion.
The MLAs inspected civic projects including works of two nallah parks at Chinchwad. The team of elected representatives were convinced that the nallah park venture would aid treatment of effluents. The slum rehabilitation project at Vetalnagar in Chinchwad was discussed and it was decided that the PCMC should itself implement the scheme as no builder was willing to take up the work even after allotting 2.5 FSI.
Bhosale said the PCMC has refused to give Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) a fee of Rs. two crore demanded as penalty for lifting additional water from Pawana river. The MIDC has been served with a notice by the irrigation department for paying the penalty amount.
The meeting agreed to allot shops in commercial complex buildings of PCMC to shop owners whose shops had been completely demolished in the widening of the Mumbai-Pune highway. No rent will be charged from the shop owners for the first six months, Bhosale said. A water supply scheme for newly included villages is being contemplated, Bhosale said.
