NEW DELHI, JANUARY 13: THE Government today announced revamping of the Public Distribution System (PDS) by conferring social audit powers on Panchayati Raj institutions to make the system more target-oriented and prevent diversion of commodities supplied under it.
Under a six-point strategy drawn up by the Government, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) will ensure consumers’ right to information regarding stock availability, entitlement and price, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Shanta Kumar told reporters.
