BANGALORE, JAN 29: Soft-spoken Pemba Tamang of the Army maintained his golden streak helping himself to his fourth gold of the competition on Thursday while ace shooters Jaspal Rana and Roopa Unnikrishnan got among the medals in the 42nd National shooting championships (international rules) at the JNR range in Sports Authority of India (Southern Centre) here on Friday.Pemba claimed the gold in air pistol junior mens’ open and team events which gave him four gold in the meet. He also has to his credit one silver and one bronze.
Twenty-two-year-old Jaspal (CISF) won the men’s air pistol (10M) open individual gold with a total of 679.8 points which was three points less than his record set in Asansol (1996). Roopa Unnikrishnan of Tamil Nadu who is all set to fly to the US and take up a job as management consultant, had the highest score in the 50 metres sports rifle prone for women, according to the provisional results provided. The final standings will be declared on the morrow. Saroja Kumari of the Army whocame to this championship with the intention of qualifying for the national squad, retained her gold in the 25M Sports Pistol 25 M with a total of 657.8.
