
SURAT, Jan 4: Principal Secretary to the chief minister P K Lahiri, who was in the city on an official visit, has urged senior government officials to address people’s problems with a positive attitude and promptly to restore people’s faith in the administration. Lahiri was in the districts of Surat, Bharuch and Narmada to evaluate the progress of the civil rights letters schemes in the districts.
Talking to top district administration officials of the district, the principal secretary said all efforts needed to be made to ensure that the Nagrik Adhikar Patra scheme, launched by the chief minister last Independence Day, was made result oriented in the state. He stressed that all officials understand the importance of the scheme and act accordingly.
The official stated that special efforts needed to be made in the prevailing resources and manpower to achieve the best possible results. Lahiri said during the meeting that in the last 10 months of the Keshubhai government, more than 5000 of the 7000-odd applications received in a number of lok adalats had been settled. He maintained that if the district administration officials worked harder, the number of cases referred to lok adalats would be reduced considerably.
Officials of district administration departments apprised the principal secretary of their respective departments, according to a statement issued here on Monday.
Besides others, Police Commissioner Kuldip Sharma, Surat Municipal Commissioner S Jagadeesan, Narmada Collector R L Yagnik, Surat DDO Kamal Dayani, Bharuch DDO S D Haider, RDC J B Patel and RTO K M Patel, were present in the meeting.
