
MOGA, MARCH 12: Punjab and Haryana High Court judge and executive chairman of Punjab Legal Services’ Authority Justice H. S. Brar today called upon the officers of the administrative, the police and other departments to serve the poor, downtrodden, women and other people of the state.
Justice H. S. Brar was addressing the members of District Bar, judicial officers of the district, sarpanches and other ruralities, on the occasion of inauguration of 10th permanent lok adalat here at a special function today.
It was organised by the Punjab Legal Services’ Authority in collaboration with the District Legal Services’ Authority, Moga, district administration, and District Bar Association.
Another judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court Justice R. L. Anand presided over the function.
Justice Brar stressed on the need for change in attitude at all levels, even at the judicial level, towards the poor as it was a part of their duty to redress the grievances of the poor.
Justice Brar said that the permanent lok adalats were being established at all the district headquarters. So far Bathinda, Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Roopnagar, Kapurthala, Sangrur, Faridkot and Ferozepur already had permanent lok adalats. The remaining districts would be covered in stages, he said, adding that the aim of the permanent lok adalats was to provide speedy and cheaper justice at the door steps of the people.
Both Justice Brar and Justice Anand asked the sarpanches, panches, BDOs and other social organisations, officers of the district administration including the police and members of the press to give wide publicity to the concept of the free legal aid.
The Moga Bar Association honoured the judges by presenting momentos to them. A shawl was presented to Justice H. S. Brar’s wife.
