I had applied for a transfer of my phone connection from Goregaon to Gorai. Though the work order was issued on 22.2.1996, the phone has not been transferred till today.Initially, MTNL authorities attributed the delay in transfer to the lack of telephone cables. But when phone connections were given to other people in Gorai, they quickly changed their stance and said the necessary documents were not with them.To procure these, I ran about from the Kandivli Exchange to the Gorai Exchange and somehow managed to obtain the necessary papers. I also complained to the managing director, but there has been no response. If I had known that MTNL was so incompetent I would have applied for a new telephone connection, which might have turned out to be a better option.Deepa Madhavan, Flat No 12, Plot No 11,Gorai Prakash CHS,Gorai, Borivili (W),Mumbai-400 096I have been verbally informed that telephone No 590 7491 has been allotted to me against my application. The instrument was installed at my residence in February 1997. Since then the phone was made operational by the concerned department and testing was done in mid-March 1997. But so far I have received no communication in writing from the MTNL Office and hence we are unable to use the telephone. In the meantime, I developed a severe eye problem and was operated at Sion Hospital on 1.4.1997. During this period it was very essential for my family members to have the telephone in working condition. However, complaints made to the MTNL fell on deaf ears. To this day I do not know when we will be able to use the telephone.Keshavji P. GalaRm No 7, Noor Mohd Chawl, Gavdevi, Bhandup (W),Mumbai-400 078Polluted water: The huge main trenches running adjacent to Postal Colony and the Eastern Express Highway in Chembur are completely clogged. Water outlets from WCs and public latrines run into them, contributing to the bulk. When the levels go up abnormally, this stagnant water mixed with filth, faeces and germs enters our low lying areas - Postal Colony, Sarvodaya Estate and DAE Quarters causing the water to rise in the ground floor toilets, making faeces floating on the water spill over into houses. The plight of the residents is unimaginable. On 30.5.1997, after having contacted Mr Kudalkar, M-Ward municipal officer in-charge, we were assured that we would get relief within two or three days. But he has done nothing in the matter so far. Do the State Government's health authorities realise what havoc will be caused during the rains when epidemics rage? S. N. Kenikar18 Postal Colony,Chembur, Mumbai-400 071Unsafe road: At Goregaon (East) the concretisation of Film City Road was started long ago from Vageshwari Temple and it has now reached only up to the gate of Gokuldham housing colony. The work is not progressing at a reasonable pace. If the work is not completed soon, it will cause greater trouble to the smooth flow of vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement. This is a very busy road without even a hint of pavement and has gutters on both sides. Walking along this road at any time of day or night has become a nightmare. The rains have aggravated the situation. Will the concerned BMC authorities take immediate steps to ensure safe movement of pedestrians and vehicular traffic during the monsoon?M. C. UdyawarA 2-14 Nityanand,Yashodham, Dindoshi, Goregaon (E),Mumbai-400 063Public nuisance: In connivance with the traffic police, a stretch of Mahul Road between the two branches of Canara Bank in Chembur Colony has been converted into a parking space and workshop for lorry tankers, which are double-parked throughout the day, obstructing the smooth movement of both vehicles and pedestrians. The tankers are washed on the road and their drivers and cleaners bathe there too, creating a public nuisance. Will the authorities take steps to curb this menace?S. K. Mirchandani2/85, Collector's Colony,Chembur , Mumbai-400 074
