After My Fair Lady and Don’t Dress For Dinner, Meher and Nosherwan Jehangir are back with a comical fantasy — Blithe Spirit. A Hosi Vasunia production, it is based on a play by the famous playwright Noel Coward. Written during the war years, "The script seems to make fun of death itself, thus trying to relieve some of the gloom of those days", says director Nosherwan. The comedy begins when Charles Condomine inadvertently brings back to life the spirit of his first wife, Elvira, a sensuous woman bent on mischief. "It’s not the usual bedroom farce or dull comedy. It’s just an attempt to see whether straight comedy will work or not," says producer Vasunia. They have used special effects very sparingly as Nosherwan feels that the ghostly factor is not there to frighten the audience. So the spirits are almost like humans with one difference: they are dead. Through the play the spook can be seen and heard only by one person — Condomine. The cast includes Meherbanoo Kotwal, Farid Currim, Karla Singh, Devika Shahani, Bomi Kapadia, Villoo Kapadia and Roxanne Karkaria.
