Gallery 7 presents paintings by R Binod Sharma titled, A Tribute to The Little Man. This 34-year old painter from Tripura is obsessed with Mumbai’s street life. Sharma has immortalised the lifeline of the city by capturing the images of various chaatwalas, kababwalas and chaiwalas on his canvas. What also stands out are the colours that Sharma uses. Though so many on one canvas, they never jar or irritate.

"He has captured the real urban feel and the culture of the streets, without being patronising or making a value judgement," says Arun Sachdev, director of Gallery 7. His paintings remind Sachdev of some of Bhupen Kakkar’s works which he saw 20 years ago.

Trained at Shantiniketan and the Fine Arts College, Baroda, Sharma has quite a few solo and group exhibitions to his credit. The Elizabeth Greenshield Foundation Grant, Canada, 1992, and the Charles Wallace India Trust Grant, London, 1994, rate among the various awards that he won.

His paintings are priced between Rs 30,000 to Rs75,000.

From February 20, 1998 to March 9, 1998, at the Gallery 7, 21-A Old Cuffe Parade. Time: 10.30 am to 6.00 pm.
