NEW DELHI, January 8: The Delhi Police claim to have established the identity of the man, who strangled 50-year-old Pushpa Agarwal in her Pitampura flat last evening. According to Suresh Roy, Joint Commissioner, Northern Range,“We have worked out the identity of the murderer, but it is too early to disclose it. Several teams have been constituted and the search is on.”

Roy said that the man was known to the family and was a regular visitor. Probably a handyman, he was usually called in for repair work. The police also add that he is known to change his residence frequently and therefore, they have not been able to apprehend him so far. The suspect had been spotted by the victim’s grandson, who had just dropped by at the house. Refusing to let him enter the house, the suspect apparently shooed away the victim’s grandson on the pretext that Pushpa was sleeping. The victim was alone at that time.

Later, when the grandson returned, he found that the house was locked. By that time, his grandfather, D.C.Agarwal had also come back from work and they both went in together. Initially, they did not find anything amiss. It was during their second search, that they found Pushpa lying sprawled on the floor of the toilet. She had been strangled with a kurta. The assailant had taken off the ornaments that she was wearing and also took some cash which was in the house. The victim’s husband is a retired government officer and runs a printing press in Pitampura village. The Agarwals also have a tenant staying with them. The couple have two sons and a daughter staying in Delhi.
