CHANDIGARH, July 21: Former PSEB chief engineer J.C. Gilhotra’s application for cancelling the warrants of arrest will come up for consideration before UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) Jasbir Singh on July 24.

The warrants issued against him and Superintending Engineer K.B. Sharma on June 13 had remained unexecuted. While co-accused in the case, executive engineer Harsh Kumar and sub divisional officer Gurpreet Singh, had surrendered before the UT Vigilance Cell on June 19, the duo had moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The warrants against Sharma were subsequently recalled on the defence counsel’s plea.

Gilhotra’s counsel had earlier stated that the proceedings to declare him a proclaimed offender had become redundant. He was not an absconder as legal remedies were being pursued by him, he had stated.

The accused were liable to be declared as POs as the warrants had remained unexecuted, the assistant district attorney had stated. He was earlier booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Engineering Department kickback case on the basis of certain diaries recovered from the residences of the alleged middlemen during raids conducted by the income tax authorities in November last year.
