The UPA Government plans to highlight its achievements in specific schemes for minorities during the forthcoming Budget session of Parliament. As a follow up to the recommendations of the Sachar Committee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday reviewed the implementation of such schemes during a high-level meeting.

Sources said that during the meeting, attended by ministers A R Antulay, Arjun Singh, P Chidamabaram, Jaipal Reddy, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and Kumari Shailja, the Ministry of Minority Affairs made a presentation on the achievements in the schemes under PM’s 15-point programme for the welfare of minorities. The PM then instructed his principal secretary to

get the Government’s achievements in such schemes highlighted and presented during the Budget session.

The Government had identified 15 specific schemes and action points under PM’s 15-point programme for the welfare of minorities. Under the programme, the Government had earmarked 15 per cent of resources under the welfare schemes for minorities. Given UPA Government’s proclaimed commitment to the welfare of the aam aadmi, the PM also reviewed the progress on the implementation of Government’s social security initiative for the unorganised sector.
