PUNE, Jan 20: Liquor traders better beware. The octroi squad will not only continue to nab the errant traders by collecting duty charges on liquor at the godowns itself, but also conduct a double-check by inspecting practically every truck or tempo transporting the liquor within the city.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor said that the PMC would be the first civic body to conduct the exercise in the State which is likely to fetch an anticipated revenue of Rs 60 lakh per month.

With increasing instances of traders evading octroi on the country and foreign liquor, the PMC has in association with the excise department intensified its drive to collect octroi charges at the godowns while issuing the transit pass and also re-check the vehicles entering the city limits to confirm that they had not reloaded the boxes which had been hidden from the octroi squad.

An intensified drive also led to seizure of liquor worth Rs 57,600 in separate cases and charging a compounding fee of Rs 6.28 lakh.
