Virtually pouring cold water on hopes of revival of alliance between his party and the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss said he was not striving for any patch up at present and launched a scathing attack on the state Government.

Matters such as alliances could be taken up only when the polls were announced. As of now, PMK had an alliance with the Congress and as regards DMK the party would function as a constructive opposition in Tamil Nadu, he told reporters.

Hopes of revival of the tie-up between the two parties arose after a recent meeting of senior DMK leader T R Baalu with Ramadoss. The DMK snapped ties with the PMK, its poll partner in 2004 Lok Sabha polls and 2006 Assembly elections, in June this year, following an ‘outburst’ by a senior PMK leader J Guru against the DMK leaders in public meetings.

Taking a dig at Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for listing out rice at Re one a kg, May Day holiday and proposed new Assembly complex of his Government among others as achievements of his Government, Ramadoss asked him not to make ‘cheap gimmicks’ like this.

He wondered whether poverty had been eradicated in the state or education for all had been achieved. The state was infact ‘very much backward’ in all the sectors, he claimed.

Even the Rs 50 package of essential groceries offered through the PDS shops was an ”utter failure” as hardly 25 per cent of the family card holders made use of the scheme.

Asked whether the party would extend support if a no-confidence motion was moved by opposition AIADMK against the DMK Government in the coming assembly session, he said even if the party voted in favouor the government would survive with the support of the Congress.

He faulted Karunanidhi for bringing in caste factor while defending Union Telecommunication Minister A Raja of DMK in the spectrum allocation issue. Karunanidhi had said some people did not want Raja to be a Minister because he was a Dalit.
