After he was pulled out of the Union Cabinet, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran was told to keep a low profile in Parliament, even avoid participating in the parliamentary debates. But he made a sort of reappearance in the Budget session, occupying a seat right behind Lalu Prasad Yadav during the Rail Budget. Seated along with the ministers even though he is not one ensured him high camera visibility—and this stoked the fires in the DMK. There were reports too of a recent meeting with UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. His uncle and party boss M Karunanidhi promptly penned a poem that said “There are countless cadres to defeat”, particularly “the one who grew up playing on my shoulders” and “is taking up the sword against me”. Does the fact that Dayanidhi and his brother subsequently went and greeted Stalin on his birthday mean that the poetic barb has hit the target?
