NEW DELHI, December 6: Head Constable Itwari Lal’s statement in court today, in connection with the Personal Point trial, provided the defense an opportunity to submit that the police had tampered with the FIR registered against Subash Gupta — the prime accused.

Lal told the court that FIR number 340/96 was registered on June 6, 1996. However, during cross-questioning he said that the FIR was received by the magistrate after a gap of 14 days, instead of within 24 hours of its filing. Constable Data Ram and Additional Sub Inspector Sahib Singh —

who were posted at the Okhla police station in 1996 — told the court that three of the accused, Kamal, Deepak and Vibhor, were put in custody in Kalkaji police station after their arrest on the night of June 22. He told the court that he was unaware as to when the three were photographed.
