Man arrested for making obscene calls
A technician with the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) was arrested on Sunday for allegedly making obscene phone calls to the Police Control Room. Manoj Sharma works at the MTNL Exchange in Rohini Sector 3. All through Sunday he allegedly dialled 100 around 76 times and abused the female operators who answered. Sharma also allegedly called the police in charge of the Prime Minister’s security and threatened them. The calls were traced to the Rohini exchange. “As there is also a voice recording when you dial 100 it was relatively easy for the police to identify the culprit,” said an official.

Snatcher nabbed
An alert police constable managed to nab a fleeing chain snatcher in the South Extension market on Monday afternoon. The incident took place at around 2.30 p.m. Vasant Kunj resident, Nandita Barua, was out shopping when a man snatched her gold chain and ran away. The driver of Addl. Commissioner of Police (Crime) B.K. Gupta — Jaiveer — noticed the man running away, chased him and succeeded in stopping him. He was identified as Tondal and the chain was recovered.

Man killed
Satpal Singh, who was on his way to attend a wedding on Sunday night, died after he was hit on the head with a cricket bat. He died of excessive bleeding at the LNJP Hospital on Monday. According to the police, the wedding took place in gali no. 5, Raghuvar Pura – Part II in Gandhi Nagar. Satpal Singh alias Raju and two other youth were part of the baraat. While most of the revellers danced on ahead, Singh and his friends got left behind. The police say that the three got into an argument with three local youth, one of whom bashed Satpal with a bat. He was rushed to the SDN Hospital first. While no arrests have been made, the police say that they have been able to identify the culprits.
