Odd-couple vendor, doctor fall in police net
A vegetable vendor and a homoeopath ran a racket together in stolen cars before they were finally caught. They would submit forged income-tax papers to banks and car finance companies to obtain car loans. The vehicles would then be re-sold to people in Mumbai and Haryana. And the installments would never be paid.
The Crime Branch finally managed to nab vegetable vendor Hemant Kumar Aggarwal, 35, and Dr Sanjay Kumar Bansal (40), both Rohini residents. The police were acting on a complaint filed by Indocount Finance and Leasing Limited. The company alleged that Aggarwal bought a Maruti Zen through them, but didn’t even pay the first installment. They later discovered that the income tax returns he had submitted had been forged, and that the car was resold through another set of fake papers. Investigations revealed that the duo had played out the same game at Bank of America, Stan Chart, ANZ Grindlays, Maruti Countrywide, Birla Global Finance Limited, Tata Finance Limited and Indocount to buy four Maruti 800s and three Maruti Zens.DCP (Crime) Karnal Singh said today that the two were arrested on February 22 and remanded to nine days in police custody.Cop missing
