PUNE, Oct 16: A separate police force to be attached with the anti-encroachment department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has been sanctioned by the State Government.

Headed by an officer of the rank of assistant commissioner of police, the force will have 73 personnel — two inspectors, four sub-inspectors, a woman sub-inspector, ten hawaldars, four women hawaldars, 30 constables, 12 women constables, and ten drivers.

It will become functional by December end, city engineer S D Garade said. The anti-encroachment department had sought an exclusive police force to maintain law and order during anti-encroachment action, he said. The recruited persons will be trained for six months. Their salaries will be paid by the PCMC. At present, the city police have to be informed in advance about all anti-encroachment action. The action has to be deferred if police force is not available.
