Police remand for gang-rape accused

CHANDIGARH, Dec 16:Pala, who was arrested by the CIA staff of the Chandigarh police here yesterday, was today remanded to police custody up to December 21 by UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) Vani Gopal Sharma.

Arguing on the application for police remand, the public prosecutor said the police wanted time to interrogate Pala who was wanted in various cases of gang rapes and dacoities in and around the city.Contending that Pala had hidden about four kg of silver in Chintpurni, Una and Hoshiarpur areas, the prosecution requested the court to grant police custody of seven days. Meanwhile, the other two members of the gang, Santa Singh and Bittu who were earlier in police custody, were today sent to judicial remand by Chief Judicial Magistrate Sant Parkash.

While Santa Singh was remanded to judicial custody up to December 28, Bittu was sent to judicial remand up to December 30.

Santa Singh, who was wanted in cases of dacoity and gang rape, was nabbed by the city police here on November 26, while Bittu was arrested under the Arms Act on December 1.
