LUCKNOW, July 7: About 100 Shias were taken into custody in the city for violation of prohibitory orders today, even as day-curfew had to be reimposed yesterday following violent clashes between Shias and the police near Dargah Hazrat Abbas in Old Lucknow.Shias assembled at Maqbara in Hazratganj early this morning. However, the security forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF), deployed there took the two dozen-odd protestors into custody.Another group of 50 Shia youth was lathi-charged in front of Vidhan Sabha where a demonstration was being staged in protest against the ban on Azadari procession. Later, they too were held.Barring sporadic incidents of protest, no major violence was reported today from the Old City areas which witnessed another pitched battle between the police and Shias near Dargah Hazrat Abbas yesterday. The crowd, which had gathered there for prayers, suddenly turned violent hurling stones at the police, thus leaving over a dozen persons, including four policemen, injured.The administration promptly promulgated day-curfew in all the five police station areas - Bazar Khala, Chowk, Aminabad, Thakurganj and Wazirganj.
