NEW DELHI, May 27: The Delhi High Court today asked the city police to produce tomorrow its log book showing the route taken by the Prime Minister’s motorcade on May 9, when Martin Massey was allegedly beaten up by police personnel for straying into the security zone.
A division bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Mahinder Narain and Justice S K Mahajan also directed the police to specify whether the motorcade took a right turn or followed the left passage on Subramanium Bharti Marg before coming down to Zakir Hussain Marg.
The bench also wanted to know as to what route Massey had taken before he reached the Nizamudding fly-over.
Justice Narain said that “If the Prime Minister’s motorcade had taken a wrong turn at Subramanium Bharti Marg, Massey might have been caught in the intersection because of this.”He said there was little possibility of the motorcade taking a left turn at Subramanium Bharti Marg at a high speed, since the Prime Minister’s motorcade was supposed to travel as per the norms laid down by the security blue book.
The bench, which heard in part submissions by amicus curiae PN Lekhi, adjourned the matter for tomorrow. The bench had observed that the “informal report” by additional commissioner of police R Niyogi, witnesses’ statements and Massey’s statement were in conflict with each other. Lekhi has charged the Delhi police, whose men were involved in the incident, with “fabricating evidence”.
