NEW DELHI, October 27: Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) workers today alleged that the police and the management forcibly tried to break the fast-unto-death agitation of union general secretary N.M. Thomas last evening.
Thomas and the workers are demanding the implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations as well as the clearance of outstanding arrears.
The workers today claimed that the management had procured a fake medical certificate to force Thomas to give up his 14-day-old fast. Thomas has been sitting near the DTC headquarters in the IP estate area along with his colleagues during this period.
He was taken to LNJP hospital, following an outcry by his colleagues that the medical certificate should be verified.
Doctors at LNJP reportedly gave a different opinion about Thomas’ health than what was stated in the medical certificate originally furnished by the police. The police later allowed Thomas to return to DTC headquarters.
The DTC workers are also demanding that the management increase the number of DTC-owned buses to 5,000. The management should also implement a time-bound promotion scheme, they said.
