NEW DELHI, March 11: The government will organise a house-to-house polio immunisation drive for children under five in 56 identified areas on March 14, Health Minister A.K. Walia said today.
These areas, spread over 25 Assembly constituencies, have been identified on the basis of localities from where several polio cases have been reported, Walia said. They are mostly slum settlements identified with the help of surveillance data generated by the National Polio Surveillance Project. About 1.1 lakh children are expected to be immunized during the special drive.
The house-to house campaign will be carried out with the help of a medical in-charge along with medical officers of the 34 Maternity and Child Welfare (MCW) centres of the MCD in the various areas. Around 1,200 healthcare personnel from the State government and the MCD will take part in the drive, which will target even newborn and sick children.
