VOW to cast out bogus voters
Humanist Centre, a non governmental organisation publishes a monthly newsletter called Voice of Wadala (VOW) and distributes it fee of cost to the residents of Wadala, Matunga and Dadar since two years. VOW, after the announcement of Lok Sabha election, started a four-part series based on election in its monthly. The first series published in the December issue was `Lessons learnt from the 11th Lok Sabha – Hung Parliament brings hanging government’. In the January issue they took up `Choices before the electorate’ and in their latest issue, they have published the list of area candidates standing for elections. They had also organised a voters awareness campaign to ensure that every voter votes for the candidate of their choice. And if the candidates are not of their choice they should protest by drawing a big cross on the ballet paper. This would also ensure that bogus votes are not cast.
SP reservations against JD
The Samajwadi Party had filed acriminal complaint against the Janata Dal with chief election officer D K Sankaran accusing it of violating the electoral code of conduct. Stated a press release, JD is misleading people by alleging that the SP will remove reservations meant for Dalits. The SP manifesto clearly states that the party will implement the Reservations and Atrocities Act, and at no place is it mentioned that the reservation policy will be removed after 2000, said the release.
Appeal to secular voters
One secular vote not cast or wasted on a weak candidate in a constituency may mean victory for the BJP-led alliance candidate and a seat for their alliance may mean a BJP government in the Centre, feels the Committee for the Defence of Secularism, New Delhi. It has appealed to the secular voters to vote unitedly for the strongest among the candidates of secular parties irrespective of the party label.
