Poll panel censures another SP minister

The Election Commission today issued censure notice to UP Minister Banwari Singh Yadav for using official vehicle to carry poll campaign material of the Samajwadi Party.

The Election Commission today issued censure notice to UP Minister Banwari Singh Yadav for using official vehicle to carry poll campaign material of the Samajwadi Party.

The commission also directed the minister, who was given challan for misusing government vehicle for election purpose, to deposit the fine money with the state government treasury and submit the receipt to the EC forthwith.

This is second case in which a UP minister was hauled up for misuse of government transport for the ongoing the electioneering. The EC said Yadav had not only used his official vehicle to go to a Samajwadi Party meet at its Lucknow office, but also used the escort vehicle to cart bags containing campaign material.

However, Yadav said in his reply that he had used his official vehicle as he had no other means of travelling.
