NEW DELHI, NOV 11: One of the most controversial elections after independence to elect the Congress president will be held on Sunday as scheduled.
Eight thousand Indian National Congress delegates from all over the country will choose from among incumbent Sonia Gandhi and former Uttar Pradesh Congress committee president Jitendra prasada, MP, to lead the party for the next three years.
Polling will be held in the offices of the Pradesh Congress committees and sealed ballot boxes will be brought here for counting which will be taken up on November 15.
The result is expected to be declared by chairman of the central election authority Ram Niwas Mirdha later the same day. Gandhi, who took over from the then party president Sitaram Kesri in a dramatic manner three years ago, got her election ratified by the AICC plenary in Calcutta later and is being propagated as the "official candidate" for the coveted post.
