Poor shot selection let us down: Dhoni

Super Kings skipper Dhoni criticised his batsmen for bad shot selection, after they lost to the Royal Challengers by 14 runs.

Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Wednesday criticised his batsmen for bad shot selection, which let the team down in their Indian Premier League match against Bangalore Royal Challengers in Chennai.

“One or two stands could have got us through to a win. No one took the responsibility. Couple of bad shot selections affected us today. It was a gettable total,” Dhoni said after his team lost to the Bangalore outfit by 14 runs.

“We changed the batting order according to situation.

Most of them floated around. If the players had thought in the middle as much as they thought at the dressing room, we would have won,” he said.

Dhoni said they would try and win the next match against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday to seal the berth in the semifinals.

“We do not want to wait till the last league match (against Deccan Chargers in Hyderabad May 27) and are keen to make the semi-final grade against Rajasthan,” Dhoni said.

On the other hand, Dravid gave full credit to his bowlers, particularly Anil Kumble who was adjudged the man of the match for taking three crucial wickets.

“We played our first match against Chennai in Bangalore well but could not finish and the same thing happened to the Chennai team today. Anil (Kumble) was brilliant and turned the tide in our favour.

“Even in the last two overs, one could not say as to who would win. When we got Fleming, we had a chance but Suresh Raina is known for hitting the ball clean. It is good to have won a match after five straight losses,” he said as the Bangalore side garnered six points from 12 matches.

“A win like this is good for the dressing room people to feel happy,” Dravid said, adding “it is not a good season but we have to show some responsibility. Hopefully, the same team will do well in the next season.”
