SAS NAGAR, May 26: Contrary to the claim of the Punjab State Electricity Board authorities that the electricity supply this summer would be satisfactory, complaints of erratic power supply and unscheduled power cuts from the township are common.
Though the power position in Phases I, III A, III B1, X and Industrial Area is still satisfactory, the irate customers of Phases II, IV, VI, VII and XI feel cheated by the electricity department.
Rajinder. S. Bhatia, a Phase XI resident, says they have a 2-3 hour power cut every afternoon. "One feels so irritated because of the heat," he says. They have made several representations to the concerned authorities but to no avail.
Prem Arora, a Phase II shopkeeper, adds that since the past eight to ten days, they have had to bear a 2-3 hour power cut every afternoon. He says the situation is quite the same when they open their shops every morning and adds, "Our sales get affected and we have to rely on the genset."
Harjinder Singh, a Phase IV resident, says that his childern who are studying for their college exams are frequently disturbed because of these regular power cuts."Some days back we had no electricity for the whole night," he complains.
Doctors in the civil hospital in Phase VI of the township say that these regular power cuts inconvenience the patients. However, Balwinder Kaur, a housewife of Phase X and P.S. Khera, a resident of Phase III-B1 said there was no serious power problem in their areas.
Mohali Industries Association president R.S Sachdeva said that though a month back the power situation in Phase VII Industrial Area was bad, it had now improved.
Senior Executive Engineer of PSEB, R.R. Garg, said though there was a problem at two substations, it has now been rectified. In case of the civil hospital, he said power is discontinued only in case of urgent maintaince work.
He said the situation will improve once the new feeder installed by the Public Health Department becomes operational from tommorow. The civil hospital will be provided with a hotline facility for uninterupted power supply.
